6:23am - I started with a few sun salutations. I didn't have time for a full yoga routine, but just something to get the blood moving.
6:38-6:45am - I didn't actually have any coffee, but I put a pot on because I know E (my husband) would need some to get functional. I also loaded the dishwasher.
6:51am - Time for Napoleon's morning walk!
6:57am - This shot shows my dresser with all of my makeup products, as well as the guest bed behind me with our luggage.
6:59am - Napoleon thinks he should be included in the packing.
7:04am - While packing, I found a random $5 bill in a makeup bag. This became useful because it was our only cash when we needed $1 to use the Ione Library computer later in the day...
7:05am - All packed and ready!
7:11am - I checked the border information. We had a fiasco at the border anyway, so this is ironic.
7:30am - E made us breakfast. These sandwiches are insanely yummy - and full of protein and goodness. Thankfully, we ate well because lunch came much later than planned!
8:07am - Napoleon is in the car. Where is E? Why aren't we going? What Napoleon did not understand at this point was that he was staying with friends and not going to Canada. Poor Napoleon.
8:10am - We have our passports...
9:27-9:35am - We made a pit stop at a rest area on Kalispel Tribal Lands. The rest area was clean and well-maintained. It had a few different displays about the tribe and the area. There was even a little free take one-leave one library.
9:52am - We stopped along the Pend Oreille (pronounced like "Ponderay") River. It was a beautiful place and the photo doesn't really do it justice!
2:13pm - There are no photos of the border crossing fiasco, but we arrived to Nelson, BC, about 2 hours later than planned. We parked (free parking on Canada Day) and found a place for lunch. This was an Indian place with all vegan food. It looks like more than it really is.. it is hard to explain. I ate almost all of it, and what I didn't eat, E finished for me. :)
2:29pm - A shot looking up Baker Street in downtown Nelson.
2:37pm - My favorite Canada Day sign. SO CUTE!
2:45pm - I found both postcards AND Canadian stamps at Otter Books (cute name, cute sign), allowing me to mail them from Nelson for that added authenticity.
2:49pm - A random shot in downtown Nelson while waiting at a stoplight.
2:52pm - The grocery store we went to was right down by the waterfront. It made for great photos!
3:15pm - I bought a bottle of local Okanagon Valley wine, and it included this little gimmick for Canada Day.. a selfie stick branded with the winery's name!
3:17pm - So, of course, we used the selfie stick!
3:34pm - Our trip to the Airbnb we stayed in required crossing Kootenay Lake on a cable ferry. Here are photos of waiting for the ferry and then on the crossing. (It only took about 5 minutes to cross.)
4:06pm - A few shots of our lovely Airbnb!
4:09pm - I rarely eat potato chips anymore, but in Canada, I have to eat ketchup potato chips!
4:50pm - To get out of the heat, we sat in some chairs right next to this rushing mountain creek. It was such a beautiful, relaxing way to spend some of our afternoon. We really needed it!
6:26pm - We had a light dinner of fresh bread we bought at the market, along with homemade cashew brie I brought from home and our very last vegan chorizo by Wheaty that we bought last year in France. I WISH we could get those here! Wheaty makes some awesome vegan products!
7:23pm - We decided to head back out to Balfour, on the other side of the lake, to see their Canada Day celebration. However, we didn't find much, and we were tired, so we nixed the idea of traveling back to Nelson and just went back to our Airbnb to chill. Here are a few photos of that adventure.
8:34pm - We spent the rest of the evening quiet. This was the peaceful view from the bed. With the cool breeze blowing in, we fell asleep before 10 and apparently slept through the fireworks! Oh well, Happy Birthday Canada anyway!
